The mission of UUCV includes acting on our values in the wider world. Grounded in our UU tradition and principles, as individuals we donate to and serve charitable organizations of specific interest.

The Social Action Council provides opportunities and programs that encourage us to live our mission together.  To better focus our efforts, we're currently in transition towards the "Rochester Model", whereby like-minded members and friends develop social justice projects to present to the congregation for participation and funding.

We focus on major social justice issues over the church year through forums, movies, discussions, advocacy and action. We also raise funds to support the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee efforts. The Social Action Council has met on the second Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Library and all are welcome.  However, during this time of transition, please see the church calendar before coming.

Social Action Council Focus Schedule:

January–March: Hunger & Homelessness
April–June: Economic Justice
July–August: summer break
September–October: Peace & Justice
November–December: Health Issues
(including AIDS and the Welcoming Congregation)

Special Observances:

April 22: Earth Day
December 1: World AIDS Day
